High School Prep Workshop

Give your child the tools to start high school organized, confident, and ready.

Starting high school is a major transition — and most students are expected to “figure it out” on their own.

Grey Matter Prep’s Launch program bridges that gap.

In this small-group, 3-hour workshop, students learn the practical systems and strategies they need to manage their workload, stay organized, and reduce stress from day one.

This Is For:

  • Students entering Grade 9

  • Students who struggle with organization or time management

  • Students feeling nervous about the transition to high school

  • Parents who want their child set up for success from the start

Students Will Learn

✔ How high school actually works (what teachers expect)
✔ How to organize materials, assignments, and deadlines
✔ Time management strategies that fit real student schedules
✔ How to study effectively (not just “work harder”)
✔ How to communicate with teachers and ask for help
✔ How to build routines that reduce stress and last all year

Your LAUNCH Program Includes:

  • Take-home systems students can immediately use

Literacy Intervention for Grades 4-8

Building stronger literacy skills with confidence

Strong literacy skills are the foundation for success in every subject — but for some students, reading and writing can begin to feel frustrating, overwhelming, or discouraging. LIT is a small-group, back-to-basics literacy program for students in Grades 4–8 who would benefit from extra support building core reading and writing skills.

Designed for students who may be struggling, falling behind, or simply lacking confidence, LIT focuses on strengthening foundational literacy skills through explicit instruction, guided practice, and practical strategies in a welcoming, supportive environment.

Delivered in 10-week sessions (2x per week) with a maximum of just 5 students per class, LIT provides meaningful individualized attention while helping students build confidence alongside peers. Whether students have identified learning needs, literacy gaps, or just need extra support to feel successful, LIT helps learners strengthen skills and feel more capable at school.

Best suited for students who:

  • Are in Grades 4–8 and would benefit from foundational literacy support

  • Struggle with reading comprehension, writing, spelling, or written expression

  • Have literacy gaps, learning disabilities, dyslexia, or language-based learning differences

  • Feel frustrated, discouraged, or overwhelmed with literacy tasks

  • Have an IEP or identified literacy goals at school

  • Would benefit from structured, small-group support and increased confidence

Students will learn:

  • Review and explicit instruction in phonemic awareness

  • Review and explicit instruction in phonics

  • Instruction in targeted decoding strategies

  • Development of effective spelling strategies

  • Vocabulary development

  • Practical strategies to approach reading with increased confidence

  • Fluency and comprehension development

Your LIT program includes:

  • 10-week program with two 90-minute sessions per week

  • Small-group instruction (maximum 5 students) in a welcoming, supportive environment

  • Personalized literacy support tailored to student strengths and needs

  • Evidence-based literacy strategies and guided practice

  • A structured, consistent routine that builds confidence over time

  • Light after-school snacks during sessions

  • Parent communication and progress insights throughout the program

EDGE provides flexible academic support for students who need help strengthening skills, building confidence, and staying on track at school. Support can focus on one subject area or a combination of learning needs, including organization, study strategies, homework, assessment preparation, and independent work habits. Available in private, semi-private, small-group or study team formats, EDGE is designed to meet students where they are and help them move forward with greater confidence.

Best suited for students who:

  • Need extra support in one or more subject areas

  • Would benefit from help building confidence, routines, and independent learning skills

  • Feel overwhelmed by workload, organization, or expectations

  • Need support bridging learning gaps or strengthening foundational skills

  • Benefit from encouragement, accountability, and individualized strategies

What students learn:

  • Subject-specific skills in areas such as math, literacy, science, and writing

  • Study habits, organization, and time management strategies

  • How to break down larger tasks into manageable steps

  • Strategies for planning, prioritizing, and preparing for assessments

Led by an experienced Ontario special education professional, Guide combines an in-depth review of your child’s Individual Education Plan (IEP), learning profile, and current challenges with practical, actionable suggestions tailored to the realities of school.

  • Have an IEP or are being considered for one
